#charandslimehk2014 Part 1!

So, sometime in December (or November??) Slime and I started discussing about a holiday together when she was back from Australia. Somewhere in that conversation I brought up Hongkong, and Slime said she'd never been there (!!) and so... #charandslimehk2014 was born!!! On hindsight it's not a very witty nor short hashtag but it did it's job either way haha.

I booked our 5 day trip via Expedia, which I also used the last time I went to Bangkok. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use, perfect for a travel newb like me! We flew by SCOOT (more on that later...) and stayed in the heart of Hongkong, Mong Kok, at Harbour Hotel which was small but clean and comfortable. We reasoned that we wouldn't need a particularly cushy room as we would be out most of the time, which we were.

We did ample research on our trip, deciding on where to go and what food we wanted to try and drafted out a simple itinerary of where we would head for each day. Temperature was supposed to be a nice 14 degrees for the entire time we were there, but unfortunately we had 8-9 degrees almost everyday :( So yes, I underpacked!!!

What I Brought:
- 1 pair of jeans
- 1 midi skirt
- 1 dress
- 3 tops
- 2 scarves
- 1 cardigan
- 1 knit sweater
- 1 leather jacket
- 1 thermal tank

TBH I think if it were 14 degrees everything I planned was enough... but it was freezing!!!! so I layered like crazy every day and no cropped tops!!!

Anyway, on to the trip! We had a 2am flight, which we slept through and woke up at 6am when we landed. We had 3 choices from when we landed - cab, train or bus to Mongkok. We decided to take the cheapest option, since we had a lot of time to spare (check in was at 1pm). Taking the bus was about... $5-7? And we got a great view of the suburbs in the early hours!

Cold, grey Hongkong!

Our first meal was at one of the more popular cha chaan teng's - Tsui Wah! Yummy macaroni soup with 'abalone' (I have my doubts) and ham, egg, bun and milk tea! We shared a set because we weren't feeling particularly hungry.

Grocery shopping at Jason's while waiting to check in!

Day 1 #ootd! We took our outfit pix in this lift everyday lol. After some rest in the hotel (and shopping at H&M hehe) we headed to the night markets!!

Super amazing curry fries!! Somewhere along Ladies' Market it was sooo good in the freezing temperatures.

AND DIZZZZ Curry Fishballs omg! They don't taste like the normal fishballs we have in Singapore, these were chewier but so so good with curry gravy. Craving this now!

We also stopped at one of the dessert shops for Black Sesame Paste, my fav! So good when you're cold.

And so ends day 1! It was more of a rest day to ease us into the next few days :)

Day 2 - Disneyland!!

We initially planned to go to Disneyland on one of the last few days (saving the best for last!) but we decided to go on our 2nd day because it supposedly had the least chance of rain - but in the end everyday was about the same.

Our hotel breakfast, cooked by this lovely lady from China! She was sharing stories with everyone and one of the hotel guests told her she's (apparently) quite famous for her stories - we had no idea but she was very sweet!

We had the choice of several set meals, mine was Rice Noodles and Salted Veg, which turned out to be quite yummy.

Morning snapshot and we were off! And yes I insisted on wearing a dress because I wanted to look cute in all my Disneyland pictures. And yes I suffered. But yes I looked cute.

Daym my eyeliner was on point that day. Kudos to me!!!

We travelled for about 30-40 minutes to get there, pretty fast considering we changed 3 trains.

Yay! My third time at Hongkong Disneyland, but I still love it.

(I miss my red hair)

If I'm not wrong, tickets were about $70sgd - pricey but hey, it's Disneyland!

Minnie!

And immediately when we walked onto the street... we saw Duffy Bear!!!!! *spasms uncontrollably* He was so cute!!!

The first place we headed to was to the Lion King Musical! And we had lunch after that hehe.

TURKEY LEG - Amusement Park Food for suckers

The whole day was kind of a whirl - riding all my favourites (Astroblaster! Space Mountain!) and trying some new ones too! I think they opened a few new wings since my last trip 3 years ago or so. But of course we didn't miss the Disney Parade! This was my first time going so close haha #kiasu.

And then we met Jessie!!! Aw I cried so hard when I heard Jessie's song ugh.

Hehehe.

Towards the end of the night we were just waiting for the fireworks show! It had gotten preeeetty cold by then and so we took shelter in the shops hahahaha.

I want a Duffy Bear!!!

Ok to be honest I took 10,000 shots of the fireworks and majority were blur or a bit weird so... ending off with A Small, Small World instead.

To be perfectly candid with you, now when I think back I only have good memories of Disneyland. When I was there however, I do remember being quite upset because the other guests from a particular neighbouring country were being absolutely dreadful. Pushing, shoving, runnning, cutting queues, shouting - you name it, they did it. Really ruined the mood :<

Another point to note is that we went from 10-14 February, which was quite near Chinese New Year and thus... a lot of local tourists and Chinese tourists.

Ok anyhoo! Was planning on blogging about all 5 days buttttt 2 days has already proved to be a lot to go on! I'll be back soon to finish up :> So glad to be back and blogging!! I've really missed just pouring my thoughts out. But I've just been so tired out by work and the weekends have been so so precious I just haven't had the time to sit down and blog. Really hope I'll have the time to keep this up, wish me luck!
